Maasai Treads is a brand of up-cycled footwear handmade in Kenya from rejected car tyres and inner tubes. We also use Kikoy, Maasai Shuka and Kite material to elevate our designs making them funky and unique in every way. Over the centuries, the Maasai tribe developed the craft of sandal making using cow hide, a sandal called an Alwala.

In the last few decades, the protection of wild animals against poaching and unnatural death has seen the Maasai move from using animal hide to using recycled tyre treads. Maasai Treads products embrace all the traditions of these craftsmen, offering 100 years of Maasai tradition in one shoe!
